A delegation from the China Sewing Association traveled to Malaysia for an exchange and inspection visit.

To better respond to the national "Belt and Road" development strategy, understand the development of the textile and apparel industry in hotspot markets, and understand the changing needs for upgrading and renovating sewing equipment, the China Sewing Machinery Association recently organized a group to conduct market research and exchanges in Southeast Asia, helping enterprises expand overseas markets.

From April 10 to 13, a 16-person industry delegation, led by Yang Xiaojing, chairman of the China Sewing Machinery Association, and including key personnel from 11 companies (Jack, Yida, Wenzhou Shenhai, Ningbo Tonghxin, Dongguan Chuang Hui, Dongguan Baolu, Jiangxi Hefeng, Zhejiang Anqi, Ningbo Aurino, Fenghua Yuning, and Dongyang Taiji), conducted a special exchange activity in Malaysia as its first stop.

In recent years, Malaysia has been an important user and transshipment market for the Chinese sewing machinery industry. With clothing companies from various countries successively transferring to Malaysia, the new trends in the development of the Malaysian textile and apparel market have attracted the attention of Chinese sewing machine companies.

To this end, the delegation specifically visited the Malaysian Textile Manufacturers Association (MTMA) and held an exchange meeting with Mr. Chen Songshu, President of the Association; Hasnah Binti Ahmad, Executive Director; Chen Yunyang, Executive Secretary; and representatives of local distributors.

MTMA is the only textile and apparel industry organization recognized by the Malaysian government. During the visit, both sides conducted in-depth exchanges on the development status, industrial layout, sewing equipment applications, and training of the Malaysian apparel and related industries. They also conducted on-site inspections and exchange meetings at the NOHAD SON BHD dyeing and garment factory and the Da Ma Sewing Machine Trading Co., Ltd., a sewing equipment distributor, in Selangor.

Chairman Yang Xiaojing introduced the development history of the China Sewing Machinery Association and the achievements it has made in the fields of technology and service over the past 40 years, particularly analyzing the new situations and problems in the export of Chinese sewing machinery products to the Malaysian market. It is reported that in 2024, China's sewing machine exports to Malaysia amounted to nearly US$X million, a year-on-year increase of 56.64%, ranking it as the tenth largest export market. In the past ten years, China's sewing machine exports to Malaysia have increased by a total of 148.62%.

He stated that Malaysia is in a period of transformation and upgrading of sewing equipment, and the demand for digital processes and automated production is constantly increasing. In the future, the China Sewing Machinery Association will further strengthen its ties and communication with MTMA, establish an information exchange and cooperation mechanism; cooperate with local sewing machine trading companies to conduct sewing machine skills training, providing users with better quality, more convenient operation, and more efficient products and services; and hope that both sides will jointly promote exchanges and cooperation between Chinese and Malaysian sewing machine and apparel companies, making further improvements and efforts to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results for both industries. At the same time, domestic enterprises need to further expand their overseas markets to cope with the increasingly complex international economic environment under increasing tariffs.
